There is no one who writes imperfect lesbian characters better than Kristen Arnett, characters who feel like people you might know, or swipe past on Tinder. Each of Kristen’s books have stuck deeply in my mind and I think of them often, but Mostly Dead Things holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the first book events I attended in Brooklyn after moving here. Kristen turned Greenlight Books into ‘the newest lesbian club’ that night, and it was the first time I saw how queer books can lead to queer community. I nervously asked Kristen if she was writing another book as she signed my copy at Greenlight, desperate for more of her storytelling, not knowing that six years later I would end up at a writing workshop with her leading my cohort, or that she would readily agree to blurb my first novel. I hope you all love this book just as much as I do, and if you do, make sure to pick up all her other novels as well.
